LEEDS COUNTRY WAY IN A DAY 100km

The Leeds Country Way In a Day 100km is a full circumnavigation of the city of Leeds via the local LCW footpaths. A brand new 24 hour ultra challenge with a midnight start or an 18 hour challenge with a 6am start all with an aim to finish before midnight.

ABOUT THE LEEDS COUNTRY WAY

A very popular long distance walk of 100km / 62 miles which makes a complete circuit around the city of Leeds and visits many of the neighbouring towns, villages, parks and nature reserves.

It is never more than 7 miles from Leeds City Square. Despite being so close to the city the route is mainly rural with much to enjoy including extensive views to the West and North Yorkshire countryside in the outlying areas of the Leeds metropolitan district. It follows public rights of way including footpaths, bridleways and minor lanes, with just a few short sections along roads.

ROUTE MARKINGS / NAVIGATION

The Leeds Country Way is already way marked with the famous Owl symbol.

The route will be fully marked and all competitors will be provided with a route GPX.

It will be the runners responsibility to navigate the course correctly which is why we strongly recommend the use of the GPX as a backup to our markers.

Note we can only mark posts / trees, so extra vigilance will be required through fields etc.

HISTORY

A route was first devised by Fred Andrews of the Ramblers Association, and then developed by West Yorkshire County Council in the early 1980s. This council was abolished in 1986, and the path is now under the care of the Countryside section of Leeds City Council. The Leeds Country Way was realigned in 2006, using a route devised by Bob Brewster, to bring it entirely within the boundary of the Leeds metropolitan district (previously it crossed the boundary into Wakefield), and the path was officially relaunched on 26 September 2006 with a revised set of map leaflets and improved way marking.

Location

Directions

By Car
We strongly recommend parking on Calverley Lane situated just off the A6120. We recommend to avoid Calverley Bridge which is often full. Once parked The Railway Inn is a short walk over the river.

By Bike
The Railway Inn has a place to lock your bike and is easily accessible via the Leeds Liverpool Canal so access by foot or bike is the best way to reach us.

By Train / Bus
The Railway is 2 miles from Kirkstall Forge station and a short walk from the 60 and 60A bus route
